Martin considers himself a "player manager", with skills as a manager, exemplified by positions held at ActivIdentity (Product Development Director), Commercial Union (Groupware Manager), Brokat Technolologies (Professional Services Director), MobileAge Technology (CTO) and Empower Interactive (Development Director) and as a hands-on technology practitioner (e.g. Java development, web development, mobile applications development, database design).

In addition, Martin is the creator of the popular SMSC simulator, SMPPSim. This open source tool, which as the name suggests, simulates an SMPP based SMSC and allows SMPP based applications to be tested without a real connection to an SMSC having been established, has been downloaded thousands of times. Amongst the users of SMPPSim are companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Lotus, British Telecom, Ericsson, Nokia, Orange and Schlumberger, to name but a few.

A summary of Martin's employment history is as follows:

Martin is currently working for Selenium Software Ltd and is offering his services as a Project Manager or Development Manager on a consultancy basis. With many years experience managing software development projects, PRINCE 2 Practitioner accreditation and knowledge of various software development methodologies, including the Rational Unified Process, Martin offers to de-risk and deliver your most demanding development projects or help improve the maturity of your development and quality assurance practices.

At ActivIdentity, where Martin worked as Director Product Development until January 2006, he was responsible for managing the production and quality assurance of the award winning 4TRESS Authentication Server.

At Empower Interactive, Martin was responsible for the development and delivery of the full Empower Interactive mobile infrastructure product range.

Immediately prior to joining Empower. Martin worked as CTO at MobileAge Technology, a company he co-founded and where he gained substantial experience in a range of mobile technologies and applications, as well as the trials and tribulations of running a small company.

Prior to this, Martin was the Professional Services Director for Brokat Northern Europe and Middle East. Responsible for all development projects, consultancy and training, Martin established and developed the company's capability in these areas. Key customers included Smile, first-e and 17 of Denmark's banks amongst others.

At Commercial Union, Martin was Groupware Manager, responsible for the adoption of Groupware technologies within the company and Group Internet Strategy Leader, responsible for delivering the CU Group's first internet technical strategy.

An enthusiastic supporter of the emergence of mobile devices as candidates for an increasingly interesting range of applications, Martin has been promoting the potential offered by mobile technologies since early 1998.

As an independent consultant, Martin has delivered strategic analysis and direction with respect to mobile commerce to companies such as CR2 . As a J2ME and mobile technology specialist, leading edge training courses "Java for Wireless Devices" and "SMS for Applications" have been created by Martin and are being delivered in association with Marcus Evans.

Martin has a degree in Computing and Mathematics and is increasingly fanatical about rock climbing. The two are *not* at all incompatible!
